Metal or jerk chains must be manufactured from the durable alloy, all links must be soldered or welded and the coat must be put in such way that it won’t injure the dog.   At present many dogs suffer from allergy to alloys that include nickel. That is why one developed  special  composition on the copper basis called curogan that is  in color a little darker and redder than brass, but it does not cause dogs allergy.

One should remember that some mot very qualitative chains can tincture the coat of the light dogs.  Hence before you go to the dog show it would be better to try it. And one more remark:

short-haired dogs or dogs with  long  fluffy coat are shown  with thin, nearly  very elaborate work chains. It’s because not to divide the dog’s neck visually and in order the coat not be rumpled.  But the smaller the link is, the less chain cuts the dog’s coat. That is why the shepherds’ owners use chains with long  links (up to 5 cm):
