The whole history of existence of Alano Espanol was associated exclusively with performance of combat, guard or hunting functions (as an etching dog). Strength, endurance, agility, quick reaction and complete fearlessness were cultivated in this breed for centuries. In daily life this dog is a faithful and, no less than any other dog breed, prone to manifestaion of affection and tenderness. Correctly brought up, Alano never shows "bad" aggression, is always obedient and disciplined. He gets along well with other dogs, teamwork does not stimulate internal squabbles while hunting. Nevertheless, Alano is attentive and strict to "outsiders". Combining strength and speed of the pickling dog, the "culebro" retains absolute restraint and calmness, if it does not see the danger to the owner, attacking only in case of aggression.
